Top 10 Expansions We Own: #3

Of course we could not do our top 10 list without adding one of the expansions to our favorite game ever released!  How could we not?  It's Blood Rage!  For this review, like many of the others, it was a close choice, but for our number 3 spot, we decided to go with the Gods Of Asgard expansion for Blood Rage.  Odin knows that death is inevitable with Ragnarok coming, but he wants to forge his strength with us, so we can go down fighting as one.  To it’s right-hand side sits the Mystics of Midgard expansion.  Both of these add variances and alterations that assist the base game in some way.  It’s good, but are they good enough to considerably alter the game?  You’ll have to read on to find out.

Boards & Brews at Home: Blood Rage

Well this is it, the creme del a creme.  A game so incredibly well made I could just weep.  To further the viking theme of this game, we also have our mead that we picked up from New Day Meadery in Fountain Square.  A little over a year ago we met up with one of our local gaming groups and played a game called Blood Rage.  At the time I had only read about it and I was highly intrigued so when I saw it at game night I was thoroughly excited.  The fact that it has a viking theme was the first selling point for me, and second it’s a miniatures game, and finally it had a unique array and splice of mechanisms in such a way that I had never seen combined before.  At first glance the game appears more overwhelming to some, but it’s really not that bad.  We purchased this game about 6 months ago, before it briefly went out of print and have played it just about 40 times since then and it hasn’t worn down a bit for us!  Life is fleeting, but glory is eternal.  Now is the time for rage!

Chain of Ghouls

 

For this weeks segment we’re battling against vampires and lycans in order to survive the night in the grisly deck-building game known as Nightfall.  Have you ever seen 30 Days of Night, or Underworld?  This game is a collaboration of those two films.  The vampires look very similar to the ones in 30 Days of Night, and the game actually takes place over the course of a couple weeks in darkness so that’s fitting with consideration to the film.  If you’ve ever seen Underworld you know that it’s all about vampires versus werewolves which is also the case in this game.  In this deck-builder you and your opponent/s will face off to attack each other giving as many wounds to each other as possible.  Once by the end of the game, whoever has the least amount of wounds is declared the strongest player and the winner.  The howling werewolves and the shrill screaming vampires echo over the land.  Venture forward and read about this horrific deck building game of survival through the night. 

Pints & Parties

For this weeks review, we returned to the Heady Hollow Brewing Company in Fishers for another wonderful experience!  Once again, great service, respectful employees and great food and beverages.  Today we look at the newly released Sushi GO Party!  The deluxe version of Sushi GO!  Near the beginning of this blog we reviewed Sushi GO!, and the party version does add a significant amount of new cards to the game.  It’s like we said in our first review of Sushi GO, it’s like a bunch of friends having a party.  Who knew we would see that a year and a half later in the next title of their game?  Read on to see this new version.

Boards & Brews at Home: Ticket to Ride

Today it's time for yet another at home segment and we're bringing you one of the biggest games to hit the tabletop genre!  I'm talking about the game for all family members that integrates great strategy and fun!  I'm talking about the big one that will stand the test of time!  The one and only Ticket to Ride.  We have a couple of friends who are joining us today to ride the rails and complete the routes.  Read on to learn how this is going to be the next Monopoly.

Quoth the Raven...

We returned to Noble Coffee & Tea today to play a game from Smirk and Dagger Games known as Nevermore.  This is a 3 - 6 player card drafting, hand management, set collection game with multiple take-that mechanics, subtle deception, and cunning trickery.  The raven has its eye out for you and we have a couple new players that have joined us for today's dark and dreary October morning.  Which of us will transform into ravens and which ones will be victorious?  Out of the darkness, our fate will be revealed in the cards.  Read on to learn about Nevermore. 

Boards & Brews at Home: 7 Wonders

For this segment we are scheduled once again to play big box games at home with more components!  Tonight Ryan, Kayte and Rand join us to play the card drafting, set collection game, 7 Wonders.  In 7 Wonders you are the leader of one of the 7 great cities of the Ancient World.  It is up to you to gather resources, develop commercial routes, affirm your military supremacy, and build your city to evolve an architectural wonder which will transcend futures to come.  7 Wonders lasts three ages.  Just like other card drafting games, each player begins each turn by selecting a card from their hand and then passing the remaining cards to an adjacent player.  Then, like other card drafting games, all players will simultaneously reveal their cards, playing resources if needed, or collecting resources. 

A Break from Tradition to Try Something New

This week we switched it up, but kept things thematic by going to the Sushi Bar in Broad Ripple to play SushiGO!
The sushi and green tea was great, but the service was horrible.  The environment was nice, but there was just no passion for decent customer service or respect towards others.  We also had a very difficult time finding anywhere to park that wasn't a tow away zone.  This was our first and last time visiting this restaurant.
