International TableTop Day 2016

Greetings and happy International Tabletop Day once again!  Last year we found ourselves at Redemption AleWerks in Fishers and we figured, why mess with a good thing?  So we are back and enjoying what may be the beginning of a promising tradition.  Today we are drinking Taxman's Cherry Picker and Gnarly Grove's Legendberry.  One of the things we enjoy about Redemption is that they are happy to let you sample a few of the brews they have on tap prior to ordering. Cherry Picker is infused with tart and sweet cherries, the fruit flavor is not overpowering, but a nice complement to the malty richness of this Belgian dubbel. Gnarly Grove "Legendberry" cider had a subtle combination of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry juices with a nice acidic bite.  Our game of choice today is Ninja Camp so read on to learn about this small box game with a kick!

Don't Flip Your Lid

On this spring day we find ourselves returning to Sure Shot Coffee in downtown Fishers.  They have expanded their menu to include a variety of delicious loose leaf tea, served in nifty self-flitering cups. While the tables are small, this is a great place to relax with a great drink and your favorite small box game. This week, we brought the 1-4 player microdeckbuilder, Flip City.  Since the cards are double-sided, it takes up far less space than a traditional deck-builder, but still offers good variety in the game play.

Flipping The Bird

Hello friends, we are leaving Twitter and wanted to give a couple of days notice to our followers.  Twitter is just not for us and we're going to be flipping that bird right out the door.  Our account on Instagram has flourished far greater with much more activity and that account is the exact same as the one on twitter, @boardsbrewsblog.
It's less work to manage one account that we know is seeing much more activity for the nature of our posts are really more about pictures and info rather than a simple update with limited characters.  If you aren't following us on Instagram, you should because so far that's where the party is and our giveaway contests will still be held over there as well.  Hopefully we will see you over there or even just the blog.  We welcome you either way and thank you for your support during our time on Twitter.

Take It Or Leaf It

This week we are coming to you from Cornerstone Cafe in Broad Ripple.  After standing in line for many hours down at Luna music for Record Store Day, we certainly welcomed sitting down with a relaxing game and a hot beverage.  Unfortunately, it ended up feeling more awkward and uncomfortable than anything else.  They clearly have a batch of regulars that they are used to serving and if you are not one of them, your service suffers.  The food was an odd mix of temperatures and had an unpleasant, old taste. Our coffee and hot chocolate did not fair much better.  It was maybe 1/8th full, but our waitress ignored us and there was an overall unwelcome vibe to the place, so much so that we were glad to quickly finish our game and leave.  With as unfortunate as that experience was, this review is about to get much better with Kodama: The Tree Spirits.  Read on to learn about this great little game.

Boards & Brews at Home: L.O.T.R. The Deck-Building Game

Today's at home segment is a review that even non-tabletop gamers can still relate to.  Lord of the Rings the deck-building game is a 2 - 5 player deck-building game which integrates strategy and an easy-to-understand approach to deck-builders.  While I am a big fan of Lord of the Rings, my appreciation can't hold a candle to the level of Claire's admiration that she has always had for this fantasy world of mystic and wonder.  For today we are just covering The Fellowship of the Ring, but would be willing to discuss the other versions in the comments section if you want to learn about the other versions.  If you're looking for a more straight forward and easily executed fantasy deck-building game, you should read on.

Who's Yer Con 2016

Once again we've returned to Who's Yer Con for another great event of socializing with the locals from Indy and other hoosiers from all over the state. For those of you who have not read our previous post from last year, Who's Yer Con is a free convention that takes place at the Wyndham West Hotel on the SouthWest side of Indianapolis.  It was another great year and Claire and I had a chance to make some new friends and play some new tabletop games.
