They See Me Rollin'

For today’s segment we returned to Sure Shot Coffee to play the casual, family-friendly deluxe version of Roll For It!  In this 2 - 8 player dice-rolling, push-your-luck, hand-management game, players are continually rolling their dice to see who can match and score the cards that will ultimately get them the most points to win the game.  Whoever reaches 40 points or more first, is the winner!  Read on to learn more.

As mentioned above, you are trying to gain the most points first before anyone else around you.  In the beginning each player rolls two dice to determine who goes first based on the highest roll.  You shuffle the deck, and place it face down in the middle of the table.  You then draw three cards and place them face up in a row next to the draw pile.  The active player rolls their dice.  They determine which dice should be placed down beside the card of their choosing.  Once they have matched all of the individual dice on a card using only their dice, they claim that card and place it beside them and immediately replace that card with a new one from the draw pile.  But watch out, because until you can claim a card, it’s up for grabs by anyone else who wants it.  Any other players may roll, and place their dice beside yours with the same goal to claim that card.  Once the player puts down a die/dice beside a card, there is no picking it back up unless you want to claim a take back on your next turn.  At that point, you would have to pick up all of your dice even from other marked cards, so you need to be smart when managing your dice otherwise you could lose everything you worked for.

The regular version of Roll For It comes in a plain box and only supports 2 - 4 players.  To expand the original version you would have to purchase two copies.  Although, the deluxe version that you see here comes with a lot of extra dice and cards to support 2 - 8 players.  This version comes in a tin, which most of you probably know I don’t care for tins at all.  However, this version has a nice felt inner lining which acts as a padded dice tray.

The quality and consideration put into this particular design definitely alters my opinion of the components being housed in a tin.  Claire is not the biggest fan of the small dice, but I on the other hand love them.  As you can see, the deluxe version is a nice little set with quality components.  It comes with a velvety felt dice bag with fine stitching of the game title and artwork etched in.  The cards in the deluxe version carry some nice artwork compared to the solid colors in the regular version of Roll For It.  It’s obviously very portable which is one of our preferences when gaming from location to location.  The gameplay is very clearly explained in the instructions and very easy to follow.  You roll, you match, you score, you win.  It can be played anywhere from 20 minutes to 40 minutes.  I personally REALLY love rolling dice into a tray.  There’s something very cathartic about it, and Claire loves rolling dice just as much as I do, so it’s hard for either of us to not jump at the sight of this game!  It’s an excellent little family game with on-the-edge of your seat fun.  Not everyone is into portable family games, but we are, and whether you take this to a game night as a filler game, or another group event, we recommend it for any tabletop gamers.
